ISRAEL : l'éléphant dans la pièce

Nous, universitaires et autres personnalités publiques d'Israël/Palestine et de l'étranger, attirons l'attention sur le lien direct entre la récente attaque d'Israël contre le système judiciaire et son occupation illégale de millions de Palestiniens dans les Territoires palestiniens occupés. Les Palestiniens sont privés de presque tous les droits fondamentaux, y compris le droit de voter et de manifester. Ils sont confrontés à une violence constante : cette année seulement, les forces israéliennes ont tué plus de 190 Palestiniens en Cisjordanie et à Gaza et démoli plus de 590 structures. Les justiciers colons brûlent, pillent et tuent en toute impunité.

Sans droits égaux pour tous, que ce soit dans un État, deux États ou dans un autre cadre politique, il y a toujours un danger de dictature. Il ne peut y avoir de démocratie pour les Juifs en Israël tant que les Palestiniens vivent sous un régime d'apartheid, comme l'ont décrit les experts juridiques israéliens. En effet, le but ultime de la refonte judiciaire est de renforcer les restrictions sur Gaza, de priver les Palestiniens de droits égaux à la fois au-delà et à l'intérieur de la Ligne verte, d'annexer plus de terres et de nettoyer ethniquement tous les territoires sous domination israélienne de leur population palestinienne. Les problèmes n'ont pas commencé avec le gouvernement radical actuel : le suprémacisme juif se développe depuis des années et a été inscrit dans la loi par la loi sur l'État-nation de 2018.

Les Juifs américains ont longtemps été à l'avant-garde des causes de justice sociale, de l'égalité raciale au droit à l'avortement, mais n'ont pas prêté une attention suffisante à l'éléphant dans la pièce : l'occupation de longue date d'Israël qui, nous le répétons, a produit un régime d'apartheid. Alors qu'Israël est devenu plus à droite et tombe sous le charme du programme messianique, homophobe et misogyne du gouvernement actuel, les jeunes Juifs américains s'en sont de plus en plus éloignés. Pendant ce temps, des bailleurs de fonds milliardaires juifs américains aident à soutenir l'extrême droite israélienne.

En ce moment d'urgence et de possibilité de changement, nous appelons les dirigeants de la communauté juive nord-américaine - dirigeants de fondations, universitaires, rabbins, éducateurs - à

Soutenez le mouvement de protestation israélien, mais appelez-le à adopter l'égalité pour les Juifs et les Palestiniens au sein de la Ligne verte et dans les TPO.

Soutenez les organisations de défense des droits de l'homme qui défendent les Palestiniens et fournissent des informations en temps réel sur la réalité vécue de l'occupation et de l'apartheid.

S'engager à réviser les normes et les programmes éducatifs pour les enfants et les jeunes juifs afin de fournir une évaluation plus honnête du passé et du présent d'Israël.

Exigez des dirigeants élus aux États-Unis qu'ils aident à mettre fin à l'occupation, à restreindre l'utilisation de l'aide militaire américaine dans les territoires palestiniens occupés et à mettre fin à l'impunité israélienne à l'ONU et dans d'autres organisations internationales.
